Solar Installer Job Description – Multiple Levels (DOE $20–$32/hr + Benefits)

Position Overview

Solar Installers are responsible for the safe and efficient installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems on residential and commercial properties. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and effective teamwork. Installers are categorized into three levels based on experience, skillset, and responsibility. The three tiers of the position are below.

Level 1 – Lead Solar Installer (Roof Lead) | $29 - $32 per hour (DOE)

Responsibilities:

Lead installation crews and oversee the full installation process of solar PV systems.

Review project plans, permits, and drawings to ensure compliance with specifications.

Conduct quality checks and troubleshoot system issues.

Train and mentor Level 2 and Level 3 installers.

Ensure strict adherence to OSHA and company safety protocols.

Serve as the primary point of contact between project managers, inspectors, and clients during installations.

Other responsibilities and duties as necessary.

Requirements:

4+ years of solar installation or equivalent electrical/construction experience.

Strong understanding of electrical and roofing systems.

Ability to read and interpret construction/engineering drawings.

Leadership and supervisory skills.

NABCEP certification preferred.

Level 2 – Solar Installer (Intermediate) | $25 - $28 per hour (DOE)

Responsibilities:

Perform solar PV system installations under the direction of the Lead Installer.

Assist in wiring, mounting, and testing of systems.

Identify and report issues or potential problems to the Lead Installer.

Maintain organization of tools, equipment, and materials.

Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.

Other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Requirements:

1–3 years of solar, electrical, or construction experience.

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical equipment.

Familiarity with PV systems and components.

Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Level 3 – Solar Installer (Entry-Level) | $20 - $22 per hour (DOE)

Responsibilities:

Support the installation team by carrying materials, staging tools, and preparing the worksite.

Assist in mounting solar panels and racking systems.

Follow instructions from senior installers and supervisors.

Learn installation techniques, safety practices, and system components.

Maintain a clean and safe job site.

Adhere to all company safety and job site policies and procedures.

Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Requirements:

No prior solar experience required; construction background preferred.

Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.

Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights.

Positive attitude and reliability.
